The Forbes mansion stands in the garden of the Buca state hospital, formerly the Buca SSK hospital, in the Buca district of İzmir. It was built in 1908 by the Levantine Forbes family, who lived in Buca. A year after it was built, in 1909, it burned down completely, and it was rebuilt the following year, in 1910.
The Forbes family lived in it for a time, and after they left İzmir the Whittall family moved in. In 1950 the mansion passed to the social insurance institution and was used for many years as an outpatient clinic. When a new and larger hospital building was put up in the same garden the mansion stood empty and fell over time into ruin. Restoration began in 1999.
In architectural terms the building resembles the Rees mansion, now used as the dean's office of the Buca Faculty of Education, though it shows a more mixed manner. Forbes Caddesi, the shopping street of the Şirinyer quarter of Buca, takes its name from the mansion.
