The mosque was built between 1516 and 1520 by Bıyıklı Mehmet Paşa, the city's first Ottoman governor, and the provincial directorate describes it as the first Ottoman building put up in Diyarbakır. It is also called the Kurşunlu mosque.
Its walls are faced with Ottoman tiles, and the mihrab and minbar are imposing pieces of work whose details are in the Seljuk manner. The mosque was repaired in the republican period, and there is a tomb beside it. It is on Fatih Sokak in the Fatihpasa quarter of Sur.
