The area was afforested between 1957 and 1963: 329,741 saplings of fifty-one species were planted over 175 hectares, at a cost in the money of the day of 803,506 lira. When the work was finished the ground came into use as a recreation area, and by a decision of 11 July 2011 the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs declared it a nature park. Since 2013 it has been leased and run by a company affiliated to the Balıkesir metropolitan municipality.
