The houses at Tillo are plastered with cas, a coarse plaster particular to Siirt: gypsum stone from the country around the town, burned in kilns and ground. Built of broken, rubble and cut stone with very thick walls and roofs, they stand two or three storeys.
Their form answers the climate. They are pyramidal, narrowing as they rise from base to roof; the walls are laid to keep out the summer heat and the winter cold, and the rectangular windows under their arches are kept small. Because they are made of natural materials that do no harm to their surroundings, the provincial directorate describes them as environmentally friendly buildings. They are on Sultan Memduh Caddesi in the Fakirullah quarter of Tillo.
