This fountain in Kırklareli was built at the end of the nineteenth century by Hacı Adil Bey. It now stands at the corner of the garden wall of the Hızırbey Mosque facing the market square, in the Karakaş quarter, but it did not start there: it originally stood in the middle of the square and was moved to its present position later.
It was built entirely of marble as a four-sided square-plan square fountain, and one of those four faces was closed off against the wall when it was moved. The faces are identical to one another, and the decoration — the reason the fountain is noticed at all — is concentrated on the spout stone and above it: an inscription panel above the spout stone, a pointed-arched frame made of marble in two different colours, and a boss on each side of the arch. Wide marble basins are fixed to the body beneath the taps. The move cost it its roof: before it was moved the covering was an onion-shaped dome set at the centre of wide-eaved sloping surfaces, and in its present position it was given a flat reinforced concrete slab instead.
