The Rize Atatürk House Museum stands in the Müftü quarter of central Rize, in a building begun in 1920 and finished in 1921. It is a three-storey mansion built in the manner of twentieth-century Turkish architecture, on the plan type with a central hall.
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk stayed in this house as the guest of Mehmet Mataracı when he came to Rize on his tour of the country in 1924. The Mataracı family gave the building to the provincial special administration in the centenary year of Atatürk's birth so that it could be turned into a museum, and after renovation it opened on 27 December 1985 under the name of the Rize Atatürk House Museum. There is a wide garden on the north side of the mansion.
The ground floor shows inscriptions and gravestones. The first floor holds traditional weaving implements and other ethnographic material recovered in the region. The second floor shows Atatürk's personal belongings and photographs of the Turkish War of Independence.
