The tomb stands in the courtyard of the Gazi Süleyman Paşa mosque in Göynük, Bolu. It was built in 1464 by Mehmed II for Akşemsettin — his teacher, in the provincial directorate's words — who had died in 1459.
The plan is hexagonal and the building is of küfeki limestone. Inside, the cenotaph is made of walnut, and the directorate describes it as a valuable piece of woodwork.
Our inventory also holds a separate record under the name Akşemseddin Hazretleri for a tomb in the same district; the two are very probably the same building.
