The Ulukaya waterfall is a natural fall within the Ulus district of Bartın. It takes its name from the village of Ulukaya to which it belongs and is identified with the canyon that surrounds it.
The fall lies within the Küre Mountains National Park. It was declared a natural conservation site in 1998 by the Ankara board for the protection of cultural and natural property under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and in 2020 a strictly protected sensitive area by presidential decision.
It is known as the waterfall that stills the pain of love, after the story told of it: that the god of love, Eros, turned into this waterfall the body of Selamnos, who threw himself from the summit of Ulukaya because his wife came to hate him some time after their marriage.
