The Tohma canyon lies in the Darende district of Malatya, between the Somuncu Baba Mosque and the old stone bridge. Both sides of the Tohma stream rise as sheer rock in a steep valley, and the natural hollows and cave-like openings in those rocks are what catch the eye. On the slope below them a channel was cut through the rock to bring water to the Somuncu Baba Mosque; it is partly collapsed, and some sections have been repaired with concrete.
Rafting, walking, photography and climbing are all done here, and the starting point for rafting is in this stretch. The canyon runs eight kilometres and is a comfortable route of moderate difficulty, taking about an hour there and back. From the Somuncu Baba car park it is a ten-minute walk to the canyon.
