The Bodrum Maritime Museum is arranged around the boats the town used to build. Its main section, From the Gayık to the Gulet, deals with the working sailing craft that were the ancestors of the Blue Voyage boats now grouped as gulet, aynakıç and tırhandil. Those working boats lasted into the second half of the twentieth century and have all but disappeared since, which is the reason the section exists.
The museum also keeps a section on Cevat Şakir Kabaağaçlı, born in Crete on 17 April 1890, and a collection of sea shells associated with Hasan Güleşçi.
