The ten-arched bridge crosses the Batman stream seven kilometres from the centre of Batman, and is also known as the Zilek bridge. It was built between 1939 and 1944 to carry the state railway to Batman, and it stands on the crossing that links Diyarbakır and Batman. It was built to take people and animals across as well as trains.
The provincial directorate calls it a marvel of engineering for its day, and reads its construction during the years of the Second World War as evidence of the effort the state was putting into developing and building up the country at that time.
