This museum exists to keep one craftsman's name alive. It occupies the annexe of the City History Museum at Germiyan Sokak in the Pirler quarter of central Kütahya — the block that holds that museum's offices, teaching rooms, library and exhibition hall — and Kütahya municipality set it up as a private museum, with permission from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in memory of the tile master Sıtkı Olcar.
What is shown is his own work in tile together with his personal effects. Olcar was named a Living Human Treasure by UNESCO during his lifetime, and Kütahya has been a centre of Turkish tile-making since the fourteenth century, so the collection sits in the middle of the tradition it comes from.
