The Karagöl Yaylası Scots pine stands inside a recreation area belonging to the Forest Directorate on the Karagöl plateau, in Taraklı district of Sakarya province, so unlike most monument trees it is reached in the course of an outing rather than sought out alone. It was declared a natural monument on 16 December 2015, on 0.10 hectares.
Its age is given as a range rather than a figure: 150 to 200 years. The tree is 17 metres tall, with a girth of 4.5 metres and a trunk 1.5 metres across.
The directorate names two things as its natural value. One is that age, extreme for the species here. The other is the fir growing beside it: the two together, it says, make a fine example of a mixed stand. Opening hours are 10:00 to 17:00.
The approach runs from the D-650 Adapazarı-Bilecik road onto the D-150 Taraklı-Göynük road, then from the Mahdumlar village junction following the signs for Karagöl Yaylası.
