The Archaeology and Ethnography Museum in the centre of Hacıbektaş opened in 1988, and what it holds comes almost entirely from one excavation: Sulucakarahöyük, within the district, dug between 1967 and 1976 by Professor Kemal Balkan of Ankara University's Faculty of Languages, History and Geography.
The finds run from the Early Bronze Age through the Hittite, Phrygian, Hellenistic, Roman and East Roman periods, shown alongside Ottoman-period ethnographic material particular to the district and a collection of coins. The museum was repaired and redisplayed between 2009 and 2011.
It opens every day except Monday, and the ministry states that admission is free; check current hours before setting out, since the page gives only the reduced hours used during the pandemic.
