The valley runs four kilometres from Uçhisar down to Göreme. Its name — pigeon valley — comes from the dovecotes cut into the rock along it.
Until the ninth century the people of the region kept those pigeons, using the droppings to manure their vineyards and the eggs in the plaster of their frescoes.
Anyone who wants to see both the dovecotes and the plant life of this country should not leave without walking the valley. There is also a waterfall here, dropping some fifteen metres.
