Danişment Nature Park is a coastal campsite on the Gulf of Saros, inside the boundaries of Danişment village, 34 kilometres south of Keşan in Edirne province. The whole area is 34 hectares. It is run by a concessionaire, and the directorate does not publish the entry or accommodation charges: it directs visitors to contact the operator for them.
The camping ground is the reason to come. It holds 162 units in all, 90 caravan pitches and 72 tent parcels, with a total capacity of 810 people per day; the day-use area takes a further 262 people per day. There is an entrance control unit, an administration building, a warden's house, a kiosk, a country restaurant and a country coffee house, a local produce outlet, a shop, a restaurant, a children's play area, a sports ground, a car park, toilets, a water tank, a fountain, and changing and shower facilities. A separate sanitary block adds four-plus-four toilets, two-plus-two enclosed showers, a dishwashing area, a laundry and a kitchen. Opening hours are 08:00 to 20:00 and vehicle capacity is 90.
Oak makes up most of the cover, with sessile, holm and pedunculate oak present, and a small number of black locust and oleaster trees. The directorate reports six bird species facing extinction in the Thrace region: mute swan, common crane, tawny owl, kingfisher, European roller and hoopoe. Its account then widens beyond the park itself to the wetland system around Gala Lake, where it estimates some 300 bird species occur, classes the lake as a class A eutrophic wetland under international criteria, and notes that around 100,000 waterbirds winter there, with ground that floods in winter forming important feeding habitat for ducks and geese. Species it lists for Gala Lake, the Meriç delta and the neighbouring lakes include great crested grebe, cormorant, Dalmatian pelican, herons, gull-billed tern, coot, white-tailed eagle, lesser spotted eagle, waders, gadwall, merganser, sandpipers, wigeon, pintail, pochard and ferruginous duck.
The park is 34 kilometres from Keşan town centre. The approach leaves the Edirne-Çanakkale and İstanbul-Çanakkale trunk road for a side road of 32.2 kilometres of asphalt followed by 1.8 kilometres of forest track. Distances given are 254 kilometres to İstanbul, 144 to Edirne, 54 to Malkara and 75 to Uzunköprü. It can also be reached from the sea.
