Bayraktepe Tabiat Parkı was declared on 15 October 2015 and covers about 132 hectares in the Tekkeköy district of Samsun. It takes its name from the Turkish flag standing within it. Before planning a visit, note the Directorate's warning at the head of its page: the park is closed to visitors because of landslide risk.
The whole of the area is forest. Broadleaves dominate, with conifers appearing singly or in groups, and shrubs and bushes among them. Calabrian pine and cedar are the conifers; beech, hornbeam, sessile oak, ash, chestnut, alder, medlar and hazel the broadleaves. The animals are fox, jackal, hare and squirrel, along with buzzard, goldfinch, magpie and other birds.
When open, the park offers day-use areas, a prayer room, a country restaurant, a kiosk and children's playgrounds, and its forest paths and tracks serve both short and long walks, with picnicking, cycling, photography and plant and wildlife watching among the activities.
The park is 10 kilometres from the centre of Samsun and 4 from Tekkeköy, with Çarşamba airport 15 kilometres away. Heading from Samsun towards Kirazlık, turn right after passing the Lovelet shopping centre and follow the signs; there is no public transport as far as the gate.
